What’s needed to build and execute a solid strategy? It all starts with a sound Vision. Metaphorically, Vision is the selected point on the horizon. That’s our goal… The Mission is the desire to get to that point at the horizon. Your strategy describes the way towards the point at the horizon and the way all known challenges are met. Tactics will tell you how to get there in the easiest way.

It takes a good overall view and a sound business intellect to define and select the set of values known as  Vision, Mission, Strategy and Tactics. Too often people and companies think that building a sound set is just a paper exercise. And quite often it is. This is because many companies are not able to fully cash their strategy. A solid vision, mission and strategy is “a way of thinking” for the entire company. Successful companies often have a very good embedding of these values. Whether it is board level or working shop floor level; everybody knows and acts accordingly. It is the best reference and waypoint in your company. And it should be the main one.

Off course the hardest part of getting a strategy to work for you, is implementation of this strategy. This part is often revered to as “taking a wheel barrel full of frogs towards the other side of the garden, without losing any of the frogs”. And people tend to do the same thing as frogs. So it takes some specific characteristics to be able to guide a company and its resources thru the process of strategy execution. I’ve been there and done that.
